F L O C K S
Flock;; This is the term for a group of birds. On F&A there are only four main flocks, and a side flock: The Thieves. Other smaller groups that you come up with, will only be considered "Rebel Groups".
Major Flock;; These are the four major flocks that have been around forever. The Ashbloods, Skywatchers, Moonshadows, and Floodlanders.
Minor Flock;; This flock is "The Thieves". They were not a part of the territory long ago but have recently taken a small part of the land and grown to a size numerous enough to count as a Flock and not a Rebel Group.
Rebels;; Rebels are birds that belong to no group. Like rouges and loners some of them dislike the major flocks, and some of them support them and even want to join them but were not born into them. Rebels are known for being scorned by the Flocks- but are sometimes admitted if seen as an asset to the flock.
Rebel Groups;; Sometimes, birds of a feather will flock together. Meaning? Birds that do not belong to a Major Flock or the Thieves will fly in bands and even some try to take land from the Flocks. (To start one yourself see :: The Catalog)
S E A S O N S Note: Birds in IC can use either the human term or the term below since they should hear quite a bit of humans … being birds and all ;3
Still Season;; The Still Season is Winter. When all life is still. A few birds stick around during the still seasons, like cardinals and even a few confused sparrows, but most of them head south where it's warmer.
Fire Season;; Unlike you may think, the Fire season is not summer, instead the fire season is fall. Fire season starts when a healer sees a red leaf fall from a tree. Called the fire season because of the beautiful maples that turn red and signal to the birds to leave and begin to head south.
Life Season;; Spring! Called the life season because of the hatchlings that will soon burst from their shells, this season is the happiest of all for the birds. The rains bring up worms for smaller birds and the warmth brings out prey for those hawks and owls! It is the most joyous of them all!
Sun Season;; What other season could it be than summer? Besides process of elimination, the name clearly tells you that this is the season that is water deficient. Less water means more agitated birds and more prey seeking shelter from the sun's rays. But that's okay! The sun season is the time of year when later hatchlings fall from their nests and either fly or die.

Dux Ducis;; This rank is the leader of a flock. There is oftentimes a male and a female alpha. If a Dux Ducis mate is killed, the Alpha of the other gender will take over. Offspring of the Alpha is nothing special, and if the Alpha wishes to find another mate- he or she may do so at his or her will.
Legatus;; The second in command. Responsible for keeping a flock in order and to help the Alpha with tasks and duties as well as check the alphas power of authority, the Beta is usually a stronger member of a flock and usually isn't chosen for his or her brains. The Beta goes "Under the Wing" of the alpha as a tutor to learn how to be an alpha if ever both alphas were to die.
Valetudo Custodis;; Can, or may not be, a mated couple who's sole task is to heal the rest of their flock. It is not out of their territory to help other flocks when they are missing a healer or need extra claws around camp. Healers may not nest! They are commonly referred to as Valetudos.
Hunter;; A hunter is exactly what their name implies they are. They hunt for the flock and are responsible for keeping them happy and full. A hunter's first duty is to bring back at least one other piece of prey per piece he eats. If he or she eats one they must bring back two, if they do not bring back two - they may not eat again until they do.
Proeliator;; Often thought of as brutes, the hunters are the strong birds- not the smartest. These fighters often think themselves higher on the list than Hunters, but it's not always the way it ends up. Fighters do the dirty work of the Alphas, fighting off enemies and attacking enemy flocks. Sometimes, even, they will help defend ally flocks.
Fledglings;; A fledgling consists of two categories, the Hatchlings (or newborns) that have not developed at all, and their older counterparts, younlings that have just learned how to fly.
Tiros;; Juveniles that have grown to a full size but haven't gotten their colorings just right. They are assigned to a mentor of the hunters or fighters but if the task is to difficult may be assigned to a healer or switch positions. (hunter to fighter, fighter to hunter etc). They are deemed tiros from the time they leave their nest, unless they injure or kill themselves because they couldn't fly.
Matriarchs;; The Mothers of a flock. A matriarch is an expecting mother who is about to have her eggs. However, a Matriarch can be permanent. A female who isn't particularly good at hunting or fighting can give up her life to help around the nests and take care of unwanted, abandoned, or helpless fledglings.
Elder;; The eldest of the group. Usually, if they can still fly and manage younglings, the females will become matriarchs.
